Which Type of Drawing Pencil that You Use?

drawing pencil

Have you prepared the right pencil type? There are, in general, two types of drawing pencil that artists often use. The first is pencil with soft lead and the second is one with hard lead. The soft lead is more convenient to use for drawing black and thick lines than pencil with harder lead. However, because the lead of that pencil is soft, you may need to sharpen it frequently. The lines drawn by using soft lead are also prone to being smudged. Therefore, think thoroughly before deciding whether to choose pencil with soft lead or one with hard lead. Based on the level of hardness of the pencil’s lead, there are several pencils with certain grades that you can buy. Pencil with the hardest lead is graded 4H and pencil with the softest lead is graded B4. Between the two extremes of the continuum, you can find pencils that are graded 2H, H, HB, F, B, and B2. As said earlier, if you choose a pencil with soft lead, you have to sharpen it frequently. If you think that sharpening job is a hassle, you can use a pencil with replaceable lead instead.

Besides the pencil, one drawing tool that you must also have is eraser. Be sure to buy more than one eraser because if you use only one, the eraser will eventually get dirty. If it becomes dirty, it cannot be used to effectively erase erroneous lines.

Pencil drawings are much easier to create than drawings made by using other instruments. If you want to create good drawings by using pencil, make sure that you have enough skill to do that and have the right pencil to create your drawings.
